Sonja Macys represents Routt County of the Board of Directors.

Sonja Macys is serving her first term as a Routt County Commissioner and is a long-time advocate for protecting Northwest Colorado’s land, water, and rural communities. She represents Routt County on local and regional initiatives including Routt County’s Purchase of Development Rights Program and the Northwest Colorado Council of Governments’ Water Quantity/Quality Committee (QQ), working to support sustainable land use and water management in the Yampa Valley.

Sonja previously served two terms as a Council Member on the Steamboat Springs City Council and as a Director for the Yampa Valley Electric Association. During her time on City Council, she helped establish the Yampa River Fund and partnered with the Colorado Water Trust to coordinate the City’s first strategic water releases from Stagecoach Reservoir to support flows in the Yampa River.

For more than twenty years, Sonja has worked on water policy and education in the Yampa Valley through nonprofit leadership, public service, and her work with the Colorado Division of Water Resources. She holds a Master of Science in Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism from Colorado State University.

Her term expires January of 2029.
