The Colorado River District (District) seeks a candidate to fill a full-time Public Relations and Media Specialist position in the Glenwood Springs office.
The Public Relations and Media Specialist will assist in the creation and publishing of written, digital and social media content aimed at increasing brand awareness, engagement and reaching new audiences. This position requires an excellent storyteller who is comfortable writing in a variety of tones and in a way that appeals to multiple audiences. This position will also assist in the planning and implementation of on-the-ground outreach activities throughout the District and provide support on projects related to the District’s interaction with state, federal and local governments. As a member of the District’s External Affairs team, the Public Relations and Media Specialist will manage new media efforts and coordinate multiple aspects of the District’s public relations activities, including public speaking engagements on behalf of the District. The position will report directly to the Director of Public Relations but will provide public relations support to the Director of Government Relations, Chief of Operations and General Manager as needed. Periodic travel within Colorado is required.
A successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail. A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, marketing/communications, public relations or related field is preferred with 1-3 years of relevant experience in journalism, public relations, communications, advocacy or marketing. Professional experience developing written content across a variety of digital and print channels is a plus. Preference may also be given to individuals with experience working on Colorado water and/or natural resource issues.
