General Manager position announcement
The Colorado River District, based in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, is seeking candidates for the General Manager position. The General Manager serves as the chief executive and management official of the organization reporting directly to the District’s 15 member Board of Directors. The General Manager is responsible for all business operations (administrative, financial, technical and external affairs) and manages a team of professionals. The Manager must be able to lead a team, delegate and play to the strengths of the staff. The Manager must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be comfortable communicating difficult issues with candor. The Manager helps bring together groups of diverse interests in complicated and often contentious matters. The Manager represents a broad range of constituents and priorities at conferences, speaking engagements and on local, statewide, and national matters; therefore, extensive travel is required. The Manager must be able to work and negotiate with other stakeholders throughout Colorado and other Colorado River basin states.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree is desirable) and significant experience in Western water policy issues and managing complex, long-term projects. Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of Colorado water law and intrastate issues, Colorado River basin interstate issues, administration, budgeting, project management and multi-party negotiations. Supervision and management experience required.

Anticipated Hiring Timeline
In an effort to maintain transparency, we wish to inform the candidates up front that the process of replacing the General Manager may be lengthier than a typical hiring process. Due to the scheduling challenges with the Board of Directors, we anticipate the hiring process to take at least 6 months. Here is the anticipated hiring timeline:
- Accept applications – April 10 – May 31, 2017
- Résumé review and select candidates for interviews – June 2017
- Proposed dates for first round of interviews – July 17-19, 2017
- Proposed dates for second round of interviews – September 13, 2017
- Finalist(s)* announced – October 2017
